It’s the newest thing, 3-D movies. Well, to be accurate, it’s back in the spotlight because 3-D movies have existed since the 50s. But will this be only a passing phase or are we witnessing a new era in motion pictures?
The impression of depth given by the 3-D technology is interesting. A good example is the scene of the plane falling from the sky in Superman Returns. The 3-D was simply spectacular. Also in Up, from Pixar, the 3-D was very well done without being gimmicky.
James Cameron announced that his next project, Avatar, would be in 3-D. George Lucas wants to convert is famous saga in 3-D. It seems that the technology has a brilliant future ahead. But I think that to become mainstream, they have to get rid of the stupid black glasses that we need for it to work. Having to wear them while you already have a pair on your noise is truly annoying. If they succeed, well I think 3-D will become as important as colour and we will see it everywhere: at the movies, in our home theatres, on television and even in computers.
