Excalibur (1981)

"Behold! The Sword of Power! Excalibur! Forged when the world was young, and bird and beast and flower were one with man, and death was but a dream!" -Merlin (Nicol Williamson)
Romantic and lyrical but also brutally realistic, this adaptation of the legend of King Arthur is visually stunning and emotionally perfect.

Ladyhawke (1985)

"Sir, the truth is I talk to God all the time, and no offense, but He never mentioned you." -Phillipe Gaston (Matthew Broderick)
Ladyhawke has a very good story, excellent actors, and some truly beautiful images but is somehow ruined by a horrible pop-rock soundtrack.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)

"Well, being me... has its privileges." -Albus Dumbledore (Michael Gambon)
The first part is boring, the second part is longish but funny and the third one, amazing and emotionally charged, saves the whole ensemble.

Harry Potter Countdown, Final Day.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)

"Every great wizard in history has started out as nothing more than we are now. Students. If they can do it, why not us?" -Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe)
The long novel was efficiently reduced to a good movie length. It’s very well done, well acted, more mature and always full of imagination.

Harry Potter Countdown, Day 5

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)

"Blimey, Harry. You've slayed dragons. If you can't get a date, who can?" -Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint)
Exciting action, superb images and effects, interesting new characters. The fast-paced script is unrelenting, and perhaps a little too much.

Harry Potter Countdown, Day 4

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)

"Poor Professor Lupin's having a really tough night." -Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe)
The direction, images and effects are much better in this third chapter. It’s also more mature and sarcastic, as are the main protagonists.

Harry Potter Countdown, Day 3

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)

""Follow the spiders." Why couldn't it be "follow the butterflies"?" -Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint)
A tiny bit better than the first one because of its greater rhythm, a darker atmosphere, great action scenes and a truly interesting mystery.

Harry Potter Countdown, Day 2

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001)

"The wand chooses the wizard, Mr. Potter. It's not always clear why." -Mr. Ollivander (John Hurt)
Casting is perfect, effects are adequate and the music is superb. Adaptation-wise, the imagery and the story of the book are very well done.

Harry Potter Countdown, Day 1

Dragonheart (1996)

"To the stars, Bowen. To the stars." -Draco (sean Connery)
Story is a little clichéd but with interesting characters. Excellent special effects for the time. Soundtrack is particularly beautiful.
